How can I take care of my skin in Spring?

Lockdown 2 and 3 (in the UK) had us all forgetting about them lockdown 1 days which were filled with sun, foamy tiktok coffees, and online shopping. As we all started to be comfortably be educated and/or work from home, I’ll be the first to tell you about the slobbish hole I fell down. Over the past 2 years, to me, it’s almost felt like I can’t remember any of the sunshine, just dull, wet days. However, 2022 seems to be the year of festivals and holidays, and boy am I ready! The only problem is, I’m still stuck in my winter rut, and if you are too, this blog is going to give you some top tips about nourishing and taking care of your skin this spring.

1. Wear Sunscreen everyday… even on cloudy days!

As the nights get lighter, it’s almost as if you can feel the warmer weather too, regardless of the rain hammering down on your window. However, regardless of how warm or cold, sunny or stormy it is, you should always be wearing sunscreen! People don’t realise on stormy days, but the sun is still up there shining down, even if it doesn’t feel like it. Wear sunscreen to protect yourself from sun damage, applying regularly on warm and cold days!

2. Moisturise more

Easily forgotten under the hats, gloves and scarves, now it is time to look after your neck, ears and hands again! From the friction of winter woollens these spots can get especially dry, irritated, and dehydrated without you realising. If you opt for a longer skincare routine that includes exfoliating (which you should be – we have a ‘is exfoliating necessary?’ blog coming soon!), you should moisturise one last time with a rich cream, then opt for a lighter moisturiser for the new season…which takes us to number 3.

3. Opt for lighter moisturisers

You may notice when the weather gets a bit warmer, your face gets more oily, and that is because as the temperature ramps us, so can our skins oil production. It’s normal for us to sweat more when the sun beams down, but if you are applying rich, heavy creams, you may experience clogging pores, so use a lighter moisturiser to help avoid and overload of oiliness. Similarly, due to the heat, a rich and heavy cream can leave a greasy layer on your skin, so there’s another reason for you to switch to a light moisturiser this spring and summer!

4. Clean your makeup brushes!

Ok, so this isn’t directly taking care of your skin, while you’re doing your spring clean don’t forget to pay attention to your beauty products. You may not realise but your makeup brushes and sponges can build up some serious grime and bacteria, bacteria you don’t want on your face. To avoid flying bristles and ratty end results, gently wash your brushes with either a soap of your choice or a makeup brush cleaner solution. While you’re at it, check out any beauty or skincare products that may have expired without you noticing.

5. Stay Hydrated

It feels like we put this point in almost every skincare blog, but it is just so important…stay hydrated! Sometimes when you’re out all day with family, friends, or just by yourself, you don’t realise how much energy you’re using, and especially in the spring sun it can really wear you out. to avoid feeling ill, make sure to keep yourself hydrated and always carry water around with you.

6. Exfoliate again! (…if you weren’t already)

We said earlier in the ‘Moisturise More’ section about exfoliating, and we have a whole blog about it here! If over Winter you dropped off the skincare routine a bit, now’s the time to get your body scrub back out! Over winter you may have experienced flakiness as a result from the colder days, but now it’s time to get rid of that dry skin and get glowing just in time. It’s recommended that you only exfoliate up to 2 times a week, so remember not to over do it, otherwise you may experience redness and irritation.

A spring skincare switch up is so much easier than you think. Change your routine up and get spring ready with us!
