Galentine’s Day is an unofficial celebration first introduced on an episode of TV comedy series; Parks & Recreation.
It does not aim to replace Valentine’s Day, it is more of an excuse to hang out, kick back and celebrate female friendships with your best girl pals.
Here at Sweet Cecily’s, we are almost exclusively run by women (our brother Hugo being the exception!), with Cecily and I (Dorrie) taking on the majority of the day to day running of the brand including making batches of thousands of lip balms and hand cutting hundreds of gift tags!
During the development of Sweet Cecily’s, we have been lucky enough to work with many talented women. Our label designs were hand drawn by the wonderful Stephanie, our beautifully styled product photography taken by Laura, our gorgeous hand printed bags by Hannah and our lovely (if not slightly embarrassing at times!) staff photographs taken by Ceri.
Along the Sweet Cecily’s journey, some truly wonderful friendships have been formed and existing ones have strengthened. Colleagues have become people we call friends, we’ve met other small business owners who we immediately made a connection with and also, the bond between myself and Cecily has grown even stronger through years of working alongside each other.
As a woman, the first connection you usually make with another female is ones Mother, but in some cases it is a Sister, an Aunt, a Granny or sometimes it isn’t a blood relation at all, it is a friend.
That friend who always lends an ear when you need her, who will dance with you until the early hours and who is so funny it makes you do the most embarrassing belly laughs.
Whoever your bestie is, let the 13th February be a reminder to tell them how much you care, to make time to hang out, and to appreciate female friendships in all their wonderful, crazy glory!
