We are super excited to announce that we will be attending this year’s Festival of Thrift, which will be taking place on the 17 & 18 September at Kirkleatham, Redcar.
The festival of thrift is a FREE weekend of activities designed for all the family. Showing you how to save money, be environmentally savvy and live a rich and creative life. Featuring leading and emerging artists, demonstrations, stalls, talks & workshops offering thrifty advice, tips and tricks as well as innovative tasty food and drink. Head on over to the website to check out this year’s festival programme. Come and try your hand at stilt walking, ceramic tile making, or even a spot of DJ’ing.
The first Festival took place in 2013 making a big impact regionally and nationally, with 27,000 visitors, 17,000 more than expected. 2014 saw the Festival grow with 40,000 visitors pouring through the gates increasing to 45,000 coming along to the 2015 event. With the 2016 event expected to be the largest yet, I feel we have a busy weekend ahead of us! Please come say Hi if you are passing.
The Festival of Thrift is a cultural celebration for the people of the North East, the UK and beyond, where people find the fun in learning how to reuse, recycle and upcycle, saving both money and benefiting the environment. So make sure if you are in the area you come along and check it out.
As we mentioned earlier, entry to the festival is free! To make sure this continues to be possible, they need your help. To cover the costs of paying artists, production costs, promotion and festival administration, they need to raise £7,500. There is a crowdfunding page that you can read more about the festival and donate anything from as little as £2 to pledge your support.
As well as selling all of our lovely goodies on a stall at the event, we are also running a make your own all natural shampoo workshop. The workshop will involve learning about the different ingredients and their functions by making your own 250ml bottle of shampoo, which you then get to take home with you. There will even be an opportunity to get creative with your shampoo, blending different essential oil to suit your hair type and even designing your own label. Anyone wishing to join in the workshop can purchase tickets through the following website http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/2592911
We hope to see as many of you there as possible! And please spread the word to anyone who you think might like to come along (or anyone who might like to come along and bring us coffees/snacks to keep us going through the weekend!)
With Love,
Cecily x
